Nestled in a quiet residential area bordered on two sides by busy commercial districts, St. Chad’s is a sanctuary where people can come to establish their spiritual links and nurture their prayerful lives. Located one block east of Armenia and three blocks north of Hillsborough, it is easily accessible from the north, from the south, from the east, and from the west through Tampa’s main thoroughfares. At the current time, there are other Episcopal churches within a five-mile radius from St. Chad’s, however, faithful members remain drawn to this small and modest, yet vibrant church. It is not clearly known why the mission was started, however it appears that there was a mutual interest among the founders to create a mission church in an area where there was no Episcopal presence in 1953. The half-century existence of St. Chad’s has been a wild ride. Ups and downs. Visionary founders. Excellent stewardship. Abundance. Full time priests. Aims for parish status. Strong ministries. Mergers. Part time priests. Supply priests. Tampa Six. Mission of Three. Meager fiscal resources. Threats of closure. These in all fifty years! Faith kept us afloat. Indeed, we’ve come this far by faith. On to History
